Kate Middleton Just Channeled an Iconic Princess Diana Look in More Ways Than One

Kate Middleton delivered an ode to one of Princess Diana’s most iconic looks as she joined Prince William to watch England vs. Wales in the Six Nations in Cardiff on Saturday.

The Princess of Wales, 41, who is patron of the Rugby Football Union, nodded to the national strips of both teams by choosing a white and red houndstooth coat by Catherine Walker, which she debuted on a 2018 visit to Stockholm. The striking piece, which features playful oversized red buttons and a flattering knee-length hemline, bears more than a passing resemblance to a chic Moschino suit worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, to the christening of Princess Eugenie in December 1990.

And just like her daughter-in-law, Diana re-wore the statement ensemble—featuring a red and white blazer and contrasting black and white skirt—on a number of occasions, including on an official visit to Canada the following year.

While Diana took sartorial risks, pairing her houndstooth creation with a wide-brimmed hat (complete with ultra-feminine veil), a wide, patent leather belt, and red-tipped black pumps worthy of a Hollywood screen siren, Kate preferred to play it safe: opting to wear her coat over a black roll-neck with leather gloves, heeled boots, and a simple white handbag.

Famously competitive, the Prince and Princess of Wales no doubt relished the challenge as they watched their rugby respective teams go head-to-head. Prince William, patron of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), and Kate, who took over from Prince Harry as patron of the

Princess Charlotte and Kate Middleton are popping in polka dots!

Prince William joined his 7-year-old daughter in a social media video shared on Sunday to wish England women’s soccer team luck in the Euro 2020 final match against Germany. Not only did Charlotte’s wish come true — the Lionesses won! — but she also had a twinning moment with her mom Kate.

Princess Charlotte appeared in a navy outfit with white polka dots, reminiscent of the dress that the Duchess of Cambridge recently wore to Wimbledon to watch the men’s final alongside Prince William and Prince George.

Kate rocked an Alessandra Rich design with the classic pattern paired with her pumps also by the brand for the outing at the prestigious tennis tournament. As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, she accessorized her ensemble with a green and purple bow tie pin.

Polka dots have been a staple of Kate’s wardrobe in recent months. In fact, she wore another dress featuring the pattern to Wimbledon earlier in the tournament. Her light blue and white polka dot belted dress, also by Alessandra Rich, was previously worn by Kate to a Jubilee Big Lunch event in June and was likely a nod to the sustainable theme at the prestigious tennis tournament.

Kate Middleton sets tongues wagging with her surprising gesture at Commonwealth Games

Kate Middleton sets tongues wagging with her surprising gesture at Commonwealth Games

Prince William’s sweetheart Kate Middleton left fans baffled as she ditched her famed engagement ring at Commonwealth Games this week.

The Duchess of Cambridge  was spotted without her famed engagement ring at the Games, setting tongues wagging.

Kate graced the Games in Birmingham wearing her stylish white Alexander McQueen suit but went without her sapphire ring.

The absence of Kate’s famed ring, which she always displays during her public engagements and keeps close to her heart, left fans guessing.

In place of the diamond engagement ring, the style icon of the royal family wore her understated yellow gold Welsh wedding band.

The ring once belonged to Prince William and Harry’s mom Princess Diana, who had it as her engagement ring to Prince Charles.

The ring is made of a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds set in 18-carat white gold. It was chosen by Princess Diana for her engagement in 1981 and was made by Garrard in 1843.

Kate was pictured with her family as they watched the swimming, hockey and gymnastic sporting events on the fifth day of the Games.

Alongside the missing engagement ring, Kate’s diamond eternity ring was also missing from her finger. The Duchess’s simple and understated jewellery choices were paired with diamond earrings and pendant from Mappin & Webb.

Many have assumed that the reason behind the missing rings is due to the likelihood of them being damaged or lost in the event of being asked to participate in sporting events. Some speculate that Kate Middleton tried to attract attention by appearing without her favorite jewelry.

While few, as usual, tried to give an impression with their comments that there’s something fishy fishy between the royal couple that made Kate to put off her engagement ring.

Kate Middleton Wore Her Go-To Outfit Combination While Sitting Poolside With Princess Charlotte

Kate Middleton has long proven she’s a proud outfit repeater, and her latest appearance confirmed she doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. On Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham wearing the same white white-alexander-mcqueen-suit-windrush-day” data-ylk=”slk:Alexander McQueen pantsuit” class=”link “Alexander McQueen pantsuit she wore just a month ago for Windrush Day (and even before that back in 2018), ringing true the sentiment that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Joined by her husband Prince William and their daughter, Princess Charlotte, Kate wore the stark white suit jacket layered over a plain scoop neck tank top and paired with matching cropped trousers to watch the swim tournament. The Duchess left her jacket unbuttoned for most of the event to show off a coordinating white belt with a silver buckle, and she finished the look by adding simple jewelry and parting her loose brown curls on the side.

Prince William also tapped one of his go-to outfit combinations for the event, wearing a navy suit jacket paired with a baby blue button-up shirt and khaki slacks. While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge both looked regal for the occasion, it was Charlotte — whose appearance marked the first solo outing she’s taken with her parents — who truly stole the show.

Kate Middleton Didn’t Wear Her Engagement Ring and the Internet Is Freaking Out

When your engagement ring happens to be one of most iconic rings ever made, it’s no wonder the world keeps a close eye on it at all times.

That’s exactly why the internet was aflutter this week after Kate Middleton stepped out at the Commonwealth Games with hubby Prince William and Princess Charlotte, too. Sure, she was dressed to the nines in a white Alexander McQueen suit, but her ring finger was noticeably less blingy, adorned with only her gold wedding band vs. the sapphire and diamond sparkler that once belonged to Princess Diana and was passed down to her upon her engagement to William in 2010.

So, where was the ring? My co-host Roberta Fiorito and I discuss a zillion reasons for its absence on this week’s episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast (listen to it here!). No, it has nothing to do with marital troubles. Our main take: It was likely getting cleaned or had a stone in need of repair. But also, Kate has only been pictured without it a handful of times (for example, on this kate-middleton-didnt-wear-her-engagement-ring-during-todays-hospital-visit/” data-ylk=”slk:hospital visit in 2020″ class=”link “hospital visit in 2020 and again in 2018), which is why it always makes headlines when she’s pictured without it on.

On the flip side, Kate’s engagement ring was the subject of recent conversations for a very different reason: The risk she took while wearing it scuba diving in Belize during her royal tour of the Caribbean with Prince William. (For the record, the value of the ring is currently set at approximately half a million dollars.)

Shout-out to the royal sleuths who were so quick to notice its absence, but also a quick thought: Maybe the most famous engagement ring in the world needs
