MANILA, Philippines — The 2023 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) was a big night for “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and “Elvis,” but the ceremony also marked the return of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The two royals made their first in-person appearance at the BAFTAs in two years. William regularly attended the ceremony since becoming BAFTA president in 2010, with Kate joining him since 2017.

In 2021, William pulled out from attending as his grandfather Prince Philip had just passed away — Philip was the first-ever president of BAFTA — while last year, the royal couldn’t attend because of a busy schedule.

This is also the first time William and Kate attended the BAFTAs as Prince and Princess of Wales, titles they inherited following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last year and the ascension of William’s father Charles to the British throne.

The 41-year-old Kate wore a white one-shoulder Alexander McQueen dress and black opera gloves, pairing them with gold jewels and earrings from Zara. Complementing her outfit was William in an equally simple black velvet Tom Ford suit.

Kate had actually worn the Grecian-style gown at the 2019 BAFTAs. The following year — her last BAFTAs attendance before this year — she wore a gold and white Alexander McQueen gown which she had previously worn to a state dinner in Malaysia eight years prior.

The 2023 BAFTAs featured a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II introduced by award-winning actress Helen Mirren, who portrayed the late queen in the 2006 movie “The Queen.”

Every Time Cate Blanchett Has Reworn a Red Carpet Look

As Cate Blanchett’s longtime stylist Elizabeth Stewart once said, “It’s chic to repeat.” And boy did she mean it. While some celebrities will reuse a look once or twice throughout their red carpet career, Blanchett is constantly digging in her archives to bring back her best looks for another go around. From the gorgeous lace Armani Privé dress from the 2014 Golden Globes to the Alexander McQueen suit with satin blue sleeves from her Where’d You Go, Bernadette press tour in 2019, Blanchett has given so many pieces a new life by wearing them for a second appearance. Back in 2020, she went all in on the rewears for the Venice Film Festival, brining along upwards of four looks we’d already seen before. But we’re not complaining. In fact, more celebrities should take note—not every event needs a new dress, and some of these pieces deserve more time in the spotlight. In fact, there are a few of Blanchett’s greatest hits we’d love see on the red carpet again (the one-shoulder periwinkle Jean Paul Gaultier gown she wore to the Oscars in 2005 comes to mind). So while we wait to see which old look Blanchett breathes new life into next, check out every time the actress has embraced chic repeats over the years.

Blanchett initially wore this suit from the Alexandre Vaulthier fall/winter 2022 haute couture collection to a screening of TÁR back in October 2022. Just a few months later and she pulled the double-breasted short sleeve jacket out again. This time, though, she ditched the turtleneck underneath and paired it with a slimmer, cropped pant. And if that necklace looks familiar to you, that’s because it’s the same strand of Louis Vuitton pearls Blanchett just wore with her

Kate Middleton Re-Wears Her 2019 White Alexander McQueen BAFTAs Gown

The mom of four promoted sustainability with the familiar frock, and shimmered at the event with the help of dangly, gold statement earrings. Instead of flowers on the shoulder strap, this time it looked more ruffly and flowy.

She stepped out in gold heels, and posed alongside her husband, Prince William, who looked dapper in a classic suit and bow tie. Princess Kate wore her long brunette tresses down, parted in the center and styled straight with her signature voluminous blowout.

As for her makeup look, the royal went for a classic smokey eye with glittery eyeshadow, black liner and sky-high lashes. She also added rosy blush to her high cheekbones, and topped it all off with a shiny and subtle reddish lip color.

Back in 2019, Kate wore her hair up in a slicked-back bun to the BAFTAs, and also rocked a black, kohl-rimmed eye look. She also opted for sparkly, dangly earrings and a glistening wristlet, but accessorized with a white clutch rather than a black one.

Boston’s First Alexander McQueen Boutique Opens

News

The new Copley Place concept store is one of the brand’s nine East Coast locations.

Enormous shoulder pads. Spikes and skulls. Bluntly stated asymmetrical cuts. No, I’m not talking about Lady Gaga’s next Fenway Park concert. I’m talking about the distinct (and irresistible) style of Alexander McQueen. With Sarah Burton at the helm of the label since 2010, having worked directly with McQueen for 14 years before his untimely death, the brand has continued to please its fans (including such luminaries as Kaia Gerber, Kate Middleton, and Sarah Jessica Parker) with looks that break the couture mold. And now, Bostonians will be able to experience these innovative designs for themselves at the recently opened Alexander McQueen concept store in Copley Place, the very first in Boston and one of nine on the East Coast. It’s an exciting addition to the fashion scene that local style mavens have been impatiently waiting for, having previously only been able to shop for the label at stores like Alan Bilzerian and Saks.

For the design of the boutique, Burton chose to partner with architect Smiljan Radic—best known for his 2014 design of the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London—to create a luxurious blend of femininity, masculinity, and modernity, with warm wood, tiled ceilings, and a light, bright, open-concept layout. Some highlights to look out for in the pre-spring ’23 collection are the “Slash” bag, with its structured architecture, cutout detail, and iconic “brass knuckle” topper fitted with four rings. For shoes, the collection sways from chunky to spindle heels and focuses on jewels and buckles. The “Cosmic” knit

Sanchez, 52, who headed back to the US this weekend with her billionaire beau, wore a slew of fashionable outfits throughout their lavish vacation – and completed the designer looks with an array of extravagant accessories.

She elevated her ensembles with some serious bling, including a $28,500 Jacquie Aiche necklace combo, a $105,000 Birkin bag, and a pair of $1,045 Cartier sunglasses.

It’s unclear when exactly the billionaire Amazon founder, 58, first started dating the news anchor, but it’s been said that they got together while he was still married to his ex-wife, Mackenzie Scott.

Their affair was exposed by the National Enquirer in January 2019, and soon after, the businessman split from his wife-of-over-25-years and the mother of his four children, Scott, 51.

Alexander McQueen to Stage Spring 2023 Show in London

The Kering-owned British luxury brand Alexander McQueen continues to showcase outside of the fashion week system, and it will turn to London this fall to reveal its spring 2023 collection.

The spring 2023 Alexander McQueen collection will be shown after Paris Fashion Week on Oct. 11, following the brand’s mushroom-inspired fall 2022 collection shown in New York in March.

More from WWD

This will be the second time that the brand to stage a runway show in London since the COVID-19 pandemic. The brand showcased its spring 2022 collection on the rooftop of a car park in East London last October.

Sarah Burton, the brand’s creative director, said at the time the decision to show in London was a result of that coming together.

Prior to the pandemic, the brand was usually shown during Paris Fashion Week.

“We listened to the rhythm of our own studio, and how we’ve been working as a team, it made sense to do it here, to be here, and to do the show at this time,” she said.

The brand has also experimented with video and print publications on new products and collections launches.

Alexander McQueen tapped award-winning visual artist Sophie Muller on a short film that brings pieces from the brand’s spring 2022 collection to life when the pieces from the collection were hitting the stores earlier this year.

For the pre-fall 2022 season, the brand issued a 160-page zine documenting the creative process of 12 artists who were invited by Burton to express their working practices, each inspired by a look from the women’s collection.

The company has also been making strides in the sustainability space. Last year, it became the first luxury label to work with Vestiaire Collective on the platform’s Brand Approved program, which allows McQueen clients to sell

Pucci’s Fashion Experience; Alexander McQueen’s London Show; Mother of Pearl Launching Sustainable Capsule

The Pucci Experience: While practically synonymous with beach holidays, Emilio Pucci has roots in the mountains, too — a fact the Florentine house will bring to life in St. Moritz this winter.

A fashion “experience” has been scheduled for Dec. 8 to 10 at the glamorous Swiss ski destination, WWD has learned.

More from WWD

“The main idea is to emphasize the position of Pucci for wintertime,” said artistic director Camille Miceli, who unveiled her first designs for the storied Italian brand last April in Capri, the jet-set island where founder Emilio Pucci opened his initial boutique in 1951.

Pucci, who died in 1992, was known for his athletic prowess and was a member of the Italian Olympic ski team in 1932. In fact, he was “discovered” as a designer while skiing and by chance met fashion photographer Toni Frissell, who asked to photograph his ski outfit. As legend goes, when she discovered he had personally designed the collection, she asked him to make some women’s skiwear, which was later shown in Harper’s Bazaar, and a career was born.

He began designing skiwear out of jersey fabrics in 1947 and opened his house in 1949, which quickly became famous for colorful, graphic motifs.

Miceli is still shaping the program for St. Moritz, but will surely conjure many Instagrammable moments as she did in Capri, where models lounged on towels doing synchronized leg lifts, and guests participated in yoga classes, lunches and dance parties.

A seasoned creative who was accessories creative director at Louis Vuitton before joining Pucci last September, Miceli said she prefers to “show things in a different way and surprise people. We are a resort and lifestyle brand: We show the clothes in a context.”

Pucci also unveils collections on a see now, buy now calendar,
